Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implications of consumptive behavior and social factors on the financial management of female students (santriwati) at the Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Banyuwangi. Amid the prevalence of consumptive behavior among adolescents and the strong influence of the social environment, many large Islamic boarding schools in the Banyuwangi region have implemented structured financial management systems such as e-money; however, the Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School has not yet adopted such a system. This quantitative research employed a survey method using questionnaires distributed to 86 respondents selected through simple random sampling and snowball sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The research findings indicate that both partially and simultaneously, consumptive behavior and social factors do not have a significant effect on students' financial management. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.014 indicates that only 1.4% of the variance in financial management is explained by these two variables, while the remaining 98.6% is influenced by other unexamined factors. This study concludes that within the unique context of Islamic boarding schools that emphasize religious values, simplicity, and discipline, external factors such as social influence and consumptive tendencies are mitigated by more dominant internal controls.
